Sen. Seward Recovering From Coma

Coma Induced On Thursday

State Senator James Seward has been in a medically induced coma since Thursday at the Albany Medical Center, his wife revealed in a Facebook post early Saturday. By Saturday evening, Mrs. Seward updated her messages on the condition of her husband by saying that she has spoken with him and he had been taken off a ventilator.

The announcement was made last week that Sen. Seward, R-Milford, NY 51st Senate District, has tested positive for COVID-19. Seward was admitted into Albany Medical Center last Thursday. He was placed into a medically induced coma and placed on a ventilator. Mrs. Seward said, in her Saturday morning Facebook post, that her husband’s condition was “dire”. She did, however, note that the Senator was responding to nurses commands and there was a slight improvement in his condition.

Saturday night, Mrs. Seward reported that she had spoken with her husband and that he had been taken off the ventilator.

Mrs. Seward was also diagnosed positive for COVID-19 and had been in self-quarantine, where she was battling pneumonia. Mrs. Seward had great praise for the doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals at Albany Medical Center. She also praised the Otsego County Department of Health.

Sen. Seward had announced that he would not run for re-election this fall after a recurrence of bladder cancer. He was undergoing treatment for the cancer before contracting COVID-19.
