Car - Truck Crash Claims Two

A second victim of Friday afternoon’s two car crash in Westmoreland has passed away from their injuries. New York State Police report that Noah Lekki, 19 years old, of Waterville, died Friday night at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. Lekki was a passenger in a car driven by Lincoln Armstrong, 17 years old, from Rome. The car being driven by Armstrong went through the intersection of Dix Road and Bartlett Road in Westmoreland Friday afternoon and struck a pick up truck. The driver of the truck died at the scene.

New York State Police said Friday that Hector Rodriguez, 42 years old, from Rome, was driving a pick up truck on Bartlett Road in Westmoreland and had stopped at a stop sign at the Dix Road intersection. When he proceeded into the intersection his truck was hit on the driver side by a car the Armstrong, which had been traveling at a high rate of speed.

According to Troopers,  Armstrong was driving a car southbound on Dix Road, when he went through the intersection and hit the truck. Lekki was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse by Mercy Flight helicopter, where he passed away Friday night. Armstrong was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital, in Utica, where he is in serious condition.

The State Police report that Armstrong’s vehicle was going at a high rate of speed and the speed and other factors contributed to the crash. The investigation continues.
