Registration is now open for the Save or Switchbacks annual road race April 23, 2017:

The Save Our Switchbacks 7.5K Road Race is the long standing Utica Roadrunners kick-off event. The race marks the start of the weekly Development Runs held every Wednesday at the Parkway. This year we have renamed the race in memory of Mr. Ted Petrillo. Ted Petrillo was instrumental in this project. He passed away in 2016 and the race is being renamed in his memory.

In the spring of 1996, following a particularly harsh winter, the 2-mile South Woods trail through Roscoe Conkling Park had deteriorated to a safety hazard. Responding to the imminent loss of the South Woods trail, the Utica Roadrunners prevailed upon the city of Utica to allow the club to temporarily repair the most severely damaged sections, reopen the trail, and embark on a long term plan to restore the South Woods trail. The Save Our Switchbacks project was born.

The Utica Zoo has been an extremely friendly organization to the Utica running community as each year thousands of runners race past the Zoo entrance. The 2016 SOS Road Race has chosen to partner with the Utica Zoo in a number of exciting ways. Runners will race down African Alley and through the Zoo on their way to the finish.
