Route 8 Bridge Replacement Continues

News

UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY-TV) — For weeks now, we’ve seen construction along the Route 8 bridge. If you’re traveling south bound going into New Hartford, you’ll see that the New Hartford exit here is still closed off and that is due to the construction on the Route 8 bridge.

“We’ve completed the demolition on stage one right now the contractor’s driving piles and starting to form up the abutments for the new bridge. This bridge was built in the early 60’s, it’s reached its time span and needs to be replaced.” — Jimmy Piccola, New York State Department of Transportation

“It’ll be four lanes, two lanes in each direction but it’ll be brought up to standard with the width on the inner and outer shoulders, also the bridge railing and stuff that will be involved, it’ll all be up to standards and the elevation of the bridge over route 5-12 will be raised.” — Jimmy Piccola, New York State Department of Transportation

“We have three of the inner ramps closed to traffic during the construction. that will remain closed for the duration until the bridge is built, and we plan on completing this work in the Spring of 2022. It’s anticipated to have steel delivered in July so there will be closures at night.” — Jimmy Piccola, New York State Department of Transportation
