CITY OF UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR-TV) — Over the last couple of weeks, the department of transportation has been prepping the foundation under oriskany street before they complete paving.
“We’ve been what we call raising the iron, all of the D.I.’s and water valves and stuff bringing them up to finish grade. . . That all list will be complete by the end of today and we intend to start doing final pavement starting Tuesday.” – Jimmy Piccola, New York State Department of Transportation
One noticeable change has been at the lower end of Genesee street. That entire area by the shops has been closed off from 5S. Piccola says this was done to stop illegal turns at the busy intersection.
“With throwing in the other street there lower Genny, trying to bring that into the mix. It really wasn’t the safest so this was the best alternative we could have you know in keeping the intersection as safe as possible.” – Jimmy Piccola, New York State Department of Transportation
Piccola says most of the project will be complete by the end of this construction season. Come spring they will put on the last finishing touches.
“There’s a lot of street signs and traffic signal signs that need to go up. Also the contractor is working on lighting and the actual new traffic signals at all of the intersections that receive them.” – Jimmy Piccola, New York State Department of Transportation
The Department of Transportation reminds drivers to slow down in work zones and to pay attention to all the traffic control signs.
