Rochester Man Charged With Murder In North Country

Oriskany Man Wounded In Incident

A dispute at a party escalated to a verbal confrontation and shooting that left one man dead and another wounded. Police from the towns of Webb and Inlet responded to a call of a home invasion on Dan-Bar Road in the Town of Webb. The call was received shortly before 8:30PM Saturday night. Police discovered two people had been shot, one was dead and the other wounded. Stephen E. Swanton, 43, of Rochester, the resident of the home at 168 Dan-Bar Road, was taken into custody by Town of Webb and Town of Inlet Police.

The victims have been identified as Scott Krempler, 50, from Patterson, NY, and William Robertello, 55, from Oriskany. Krempler was pronounced dead at the scene. Robertello was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, via helicopter, where he was treated and released for a gunshot wound.

The preliminary investigation into the incident indicates that there was a party down the road from Swanton’s home. There was reported to be an argument at the party and later on Swanton got into a verbal altercation with the victims in the driveway of the Swanton home. Police say it appears that Swanton shot the men with a handgun.

Swanton was taken into custody by Town of Webb and Town of Inlet Police without incident. He was charged with Second Degree Murder and Second Degree Attempted Murder. Swanton was arraigned via Skype and remanded to the Herkimer County Jail without bail.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation are conducting the investigation.
