FORESTPORT, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY-TV) — Homeowners are concerned about a proposed quarry in Forestport near White Lake. We spoke with some of those voicing their concerns.
The owner of the property that the quarry would be on, Thomas Sunderlin, with a company Strategic Mining Solutions, sent a permit application to the Department of Environmental Conservation and the Adirondack Park agency in April for the proposed White Lake Granite Quarry. The application process is still going on.
Most property owners in the white lake area are seasonal and had no idea about the proposed quarry. Those who now know about the quarry have come together to do what they can to stop the proposal.
“We are really motivated by protecting the park and our properties and the quality of the water in the lake. Which this quarry, our water sources run right through it. So, there’s no way you can blast a quarry and not have it effect the water quality.” Sheila Cuccaro, White Lake Property Owner
Our Reporter Karina Gerry spoke with Sunderlin on the phone and he said that a lot of false information was being spread about his proposal and the quarry. He denied her request for an on-camera interview but said he would send a written statement later tonight.
