Police looking for additional information in New Hartford Accident

The New Hartford Police Department responded to the eastbound lane of the Rt. 5/8/12 arterial, near the intersection with Wilbur Rd., for a three-car motor vehicle crash.

Edward Turley, 39 of New Hartford collided with a tractor trailer being operated by Warner Cox, 50 of Boonville. Turley’s vehicle was forced sideways and slid into the guide rail separating the eastbound and westbound lanes of the arterial.

The initial impact of the collision forced Cox’s vehicle into another tractor trailer being operated by Sandra Dennis, 48 of Colchester, CT.

Dennis’ vehicle, which was in the passing lane at the time of impact, then struck a guide rail before coming to a stop.

The fuel tanks on both tractor trailers ruptured allowing diesel fuel to spill into the roadway, which subsequently caused the closure of both eastbound and westbound lanes of traffic.

Both Turley and Dennis were transported to a local Hospital with back, chest and shoulder injuries; while Cox was uninjured. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing and Police are requesting that any witnesses to the incident contact the New Hartford Police Department. Police were assisted on scene by the New York State Department of Transportation, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the New Hartford Fire Department and Edward’s Ambulance.
