UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – Utica Police arrested a man on Tuesday, March 28 after it was found that he scammed someone out of money for a Craigslist rental.
39-year-old Matthew Poirier of Utica was arrested after several weeks of investigation by the Utica Police Department into a Craigslist scam. The victim gave Poirier $1,700 in February, believed to be for a deposit for the rental. However, when the victim went to the apartment, it was found that it was occupied and Poirier had no ownership rights to the apartment.
A several-week search ensued to find Poirier, which ended on Tuesday, March 28, when he was apprehended by the Yorkville Police Department.
Poirier has since been transported to the Utica Police Department, where he awaits arraignment. He has been charged with fourth-degree Grand Larceny, a felony.
