UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – Utica Police arrested a man after he took officers on a chase and discarded a handgun in a backyard.

Officers tried to stop 23-year-old Lual Lual – who was walking down South Street near Brinckerhoff Avenue – after police found that he had outstanding warrants. Lual began to flee on foot while removing a handgun from his jacket.

He then ran into a backyard on the 1000 block of Brinckerhoff Avenue, where he ejected the magazine from the gun and threw it into the backyard. He then discarded the rest of the gun in another yard. Officers were able to catch up with and apprehend Lual. He was then transported to the Utica Police Department.

Lual has been charged with the outstanding warrants for second degree Menacing and Criminal Trespass. Additionally, he was charged with second-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Criminal Possession of a Firearm, both felonies.
