Phase II Underway in Utica: Businesses Prepare For “New Normal”

ONEIDA COUNTY. N.Y. (WUTR-TV) — During today’s daily address with Governor Cuomo, he said that all 5 regions that were in phase i can now proceed to Phase II. This comes after Cuomo’s last minute decision to halt the reopening process saying that experts needed to analyze data before giving the green light.

“I’m extremely excited because we’re moving into the next phase that everybody was looking forward to. And I think at this time, let’s not think about the past, let’s think about the future as we’re opening up, we’re getting back into what we consider the new normal.” – Mayor Robert Palmieri, (D)-Utica

The new normal meaning, we’ll still be social distancing, wearing our masks and maintaining healthy hand hygiene. Phase II will give businesses the opportunity to reopen and hopefully, begin to financially recover. We’ve made a lot of progress, but we still have a long road ahead.

“Until we get a vaccine, we’re going to be going through this each and every day, each and every week, a little bit different and some things will change as we get to the next level. We just don’t know what the unknown is.” – Mayor Robert Palmieri, (D)-Utica
Palmieri says reopening wouldn’t be possible without the help of our residents

“The citizens have done an outstanding job with complying with all of the rules and regulations of this horrible pandemic that we’re going through. And because of them, we’re able to get into the next phase.” – Mayor Robert Palmieri, (D)-Utica
