Oneida County Executive Picente Announces Re-Election


Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente has announced that he will seek re-election this fall. Picente made the announcement at a press conference held at 72 Tavern in Utica Wednesday morning. He will be seeking his fourth term as the head of county government. In his announcement, Picente noted his desire to see the completition of several projects underway in the county. He specifically cited the Downtown Utica hospital, the U District development in Utica and the Nexus Center that is part of the proposed U District.

Joining Picente at the press conference was Oneida County Comptroller Joseph Timpano. Timpano also announced that he will run in November. Picente and Timpano are both Republicans.

Picente first became Oneida County Exectuvie in 2006 when he was appointed to fill the remaining time of Joe Griffo’s term as County Executive. Picente won election to his first full term in the office in 2007. Timpano has been comptroller for 20 years. David Gordon has challenged Picente to a primary in June for the Republican Nomination.
