DEERFIELD, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – The company that is looking to build several solar panels in the town of Deerfield is hosting an open house to discuss the project.

Boralex, the long-term developer, owner, and operator of the project, are inviting interested members of the community to an open house to learn about the progress that has been made since the last in-person event in Cold Brook in September of 2022.

The Newport Solar Project, to be built between the towns of Newport and Deerfield, is a proposed solar facility on the border between the two towns. A proposed transition line is intended to connect the project to the electrical grid in the town of Marcy. The project is currently in the early stages of development.

The facility is expected to create 150 construction jobs in Herkimer and Oneida Counties and long-term support jobs, as well as help New York State achieve its goal of 100% clean power generation by 2040.

The Open House is scheduled for Tuesday, March 21 from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Deerfield Elementary School on Schoolhouse Road in the City of Utica. There will be no formal presentation, but staff will be on hand to answer questions from the public. If you cannot make it, the posters provided will be available on Boralex’s website at the link below. If you want more information on the event itself, you are asked to call Marc Stachiw at 403-880-4939 or Rochelle Rumney at 365-323-8500.
