ALBANY, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – New York State Senator Brian Benjamin is reported to be Kathy Hochul’s selection for Lieutenant Governor. New York state senator Joseph Griffo about the governors choice.

“He’s a personable individual, bright and hard-working and I look forward to continuing to communicate with him specific to the issues of importance to our regions here in central and northern New York because we have many unique challenges,” said Griffo.

Senator Benjamin is based in New York City and Griffo says that in this short time span Benjamin would have to get up to speed…specifically with issues that effect upstate New York.

“Then obviously they’re facing a potential election primary next spring so there’s a lot that will be going on professionally and governmentally  and politically from an electoral process  that will be consuming a lot of their time,” said Griffo.

However, Senator Griffo has served in the senate with Benjamin and tells us he is hopeful that he will be prepared to undertake this responsibility in a very quick time frame.

“I think the Lieutenant Governor has to be someone the governor has confidence in. We need to confront the economic challenges, the pandemic. We need to look at what we can do to stop this rising crime so I’m hopeful that we will be able to have a communication where we can get attention to the issues that we believe are paramount,” said Griffo

Hochul has not yet formally announced Benjamin as her selection, and he would not need to be ratified in The New York State Senate.
