“Now that COVID is hopefully going to the rear view mirror pardon the pun…we are able to open up our doors and bring more staff on in anticipation of the coming snow and ice season. But any time you are able to bring on new staff is a positive thing for any organization,” said Sean Hennessey, The New York DOT Assistant Commissioner.

The department of transportation is seeking hardworking…career-oriented…and dedicated professionals to join their team. The job offers benefits and advancement opportunities and gives employees the chance to keep our roadways safe across New York State.

“In the winter time our primary job is to remove snow and ice from the roadways during the storms and then after the storms we go out and clear out the intersections and also in our downtime we maintain our fleet of truck, keep them grease, washed and make sure all the wear edges are maintained properly so that way they’re ready to go for the next storm” said Highway Maintenance Supervisor Kevin Kalk.

Winter maintenance crews work unpredicted hours and put their lives on the line every time they step on the roadways. although the position entails these struggle, but tells us the best part of his job is knowing that you made your community a better place.

“…You made the roads safer for everybody to get where they needed….even on holidays…yes we work holiday, Christmas sometimes we’re here. The work of the winter maintenance staff is not just important when it comes to roadway safety. the work of the DOT is especially important when it comes to keeping our economy flowing across New York State.

“Everyday when our staff goes out in the field and plows the road there’s direct impact on the economy. not just the safety of our folks but the economy as a whole. so the work that we do here at the dot as we come out of COVID is critically important as New York state moves forward to the next faze of our economy,” Hennessey added.
