It’s a place that everyhigh school football team hopes to be — the state tournament. In this week’sedition of Monday Morning Quarterback we’ll take a look at the Westmoreland Bulldogs, who are fresh off a Section III Class D title and are gearing up for anotherchance to play at the Dome. It is common place for any team in any given seasonto take a loss, reflect on it and move forward. But for the WestmorelandBulldogs it’s been nothing but perfection. Ten challenges and no defeats enroute to a sectional title. Now the focus shifts to the state tournament. “I think thedefining moment was when we played West Canada, we’re fortunate to win, butagain it was a great team effort in the second half, we had a lot of injurieswith cramping and it was a hot day, it was a physical game but our kids cametogether and were able to pull out a huge victory with a huge stop of a twopoint conversion.” After the West Canada matchup the winning became contagious and had a snowball effect all the way untilthe sectional semifinal game.”Rightwhen we beat Onondaga and I could hear people yelling Dome, I just startedsmiling and looked at Barnes and coach and I’m just like were going, I can’twait to get there. And going into that building its the best feeling in theworld, like I said its every kid’s dream to be in there.” You can’t stay perfect on the season without talent and thebulldogs have it in spades, but you can’t hope to content for state titleswithout something else. “Like we said from the beginning of theyear, this team we click together from the very start. I think as the season isgoing on its just we all want it, its a team effort and I think everyone’s onthe same page this year.”
