The athletic programs at Mohawk Valley Community College have been celebrated for their success over the years, but the Hawks have gained another distinction this Fall upon receiving the 2010-2011 NJCAA Region III Sportsmanship Award.

Region III annually recognizes collegiate institutions which exhibit dedication to the honor and integrity of intercollegiate athletics and whose student-athletes and staff display outstanding sportsmanship during competition. This award recognizes the actions of student-athletes and coaches both on and off the field in their behavior and respect during their academic careers.

“This award is a true testament to our student-athletes and coaching staff on handling themselves in a professional and collegial manner as representatives of Mohawk Valley Community College,” said Gary Broadhurst, MVCC Director of Athletics.

This award was created by the athletic directors from the 26 colleges which make-up Region III to recognize their peers who strive for excellence in all areas of athletics. MVCC has one of the most extensive and diverse two-year college intercollegiate athletic programs in the country. MVCC features 22 athletic programs which have won 19 team national championships and produced 115 individual national champions

“Congratulations, to all of the staff and student-athletes at Mohawk Valley Community College,” stated Jeffrey Wiley, NJCAA’s Men’s Regional Director, in a release. “Based on the criteria developed by the standard and ethics committee it is our honor to inform you and your institution you have received the 2010-11 NJCAA Region III sportsmanship award.”
