ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. (WUTR-TV) — On August 29th a wedding party with over 100 guests traveled from the Southern Tier to Oneida County for a reception, which was held at Twin Ponds Golf and Country Club in New York Mills. None of the attendents are Oneida County residents, but 6 counties have been impacted by the mass gathering.
“Oneida, Onondaga, Tioga, Chemung, Steuben and Schuyler. . . As of what i know right now approximately 45 to 50 positive cases and at least 2 if not 3 fatalities as a result of that exposure.” –
The State Liquor Authority has suspended Twin Pond’s liquor license for failing to follow the governor’s COVID-19 guidelines. Although the county has seen record lows of new positive cases, Picente says we must continue to treat this virus as a threat.
“To say that we’re out of the woods, we’re not. Even though the numbers have been low, this is the concern that it gives people that false sense of security that it’s okay to not wear a mask, it’s okay to gather in certain establishments the way we did 10 months ago. Well we’re not there yet. We’ve gotta keep wearing the masks, we’ve gotta keep the distance and we’ve got to adhere to the guidelines that are in place in terms of social gatherings. That’s just something that’s probably going to be with us for while.” – Anthony Picente, Oneida County Executive
