Man arrested for burglarizing several businesses in the New Hartford Shopping Center

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY-TV) – The New Hartford Police Department is reporting that a man has been arrested for multiple counts of theft during the month of August and may also be responsible for other larcenies reported throughout the area.

In July 2021, the New Hartford Police Department began to investigate a series of complaints of theft that were taking place around Slusser Ave, Lawrence Ave, Wilbur Road, Orange Ave, Golf Ave, and businesses at the New Hartford Shopping Center.

Eventually investigators focused their attention to 43-year-old Robert L. Spano of New Hartford. Spano is accused of entering a building on Slusser Ave on the afternoon of August 2nd and stealing over $2,400 worth of items. He then allegedly stole a shopping cart from the Dollar General and used it to transport the stolen items off premises.

Police say the investigation is currently still ongoing and there may be more charges in the future. They believe Spano is responsible for stealing a bicycle on August 9th from a bike shop in the New Hartford Shopping Center, as well as several other larcenies and burglaries that have taken place in the area.

Robert L. Spano has been arrested and charged with the following:

  • One count of Burglary in the Third Degree (Class A Misdemeanor)
  • Two counts of Petit Larceny (Class A Misdemeanor)

Spano was arraigned at the Oneida County C.A.P. court and remanded to the Oneida County Jail with no bail for having more than 2 prior felony convictions.
