TRAVEL ADVISORY: Overnight work on Route 8 bridge in New Hartford to begin

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY-TV) – The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Utica Regional Office in coordination with City of Utica has issued the following traveler advisory for motorists in the Town of New Hartford and the City of Utica, Oneida County:

On Monday, July 26, through Wednesday, July 28, 2021Routes 5/12 north and southbound will be closed to through traffic at the interchange nightly from 10PM through 6AM. The closure is necessary to set steel girders for stage 1 construction on the Route 8 bridge.

In addition, the ramp from Route 840 eastbound to Route 5/8/12 northbound will also be closed to traffic nightly during the steel erection operation.

Signs will advise motorists of the road closures and direct traffic to the appropriate detour routes. Variable message signs (V.M.S.) have been in operation notifying local motorists of the nighttime demolition work.

Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.  Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
