ROME, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — Oneida County Sheriffs arrested a Rome man on Sunday, November 5 after he was involved in a one-car motor vehicle accident in the city.

Officers were called to the accident on Route 26 near Erie Boulevard at approximately 7:00 PM on Sunday. Further investigation into the accident found that the driver — 43-year-old Matthew Prichard of Rome — was driving on Route 26 while intoxicated. He then exited the roadway and collided with an earth embankment.

While being taken into custody, Oneida County Sheriffs say Prichard became combative with officers and physically resisted arrest. He was eventually taken into custody and transported to the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building in Oriskany and was turned over to the Oneida County Jail Pending arraignment.

Prichard has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Driving While Intoxicated Per Se, and Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, all traffic law violations. He was also charged with second-degree Obstructing Governmental Administration and Resisting Arrest — both misdemeanors — as well as several other traffic violations.

With the holiday season approaching, the Sheriff’s Office also reminded motorists that DWI’s are strictly enforced in the county. They reminded motorists to drink responsibly, plan ahead and call for a ride.
