OTSEGO COUNTY (WUTR-TV) — On Thursday, Gabriel Truitt, 33, of Oneonta has been found guilty of first degree arson, first degree murder and two counts of second degree murder that caused the death of former Oneonta firefighter, John Heller.
A week long trial, but it only took the jury about four hours to find Truitt guilty on all charges.
Back in December 2018, Truitt set fire to his ex-girlfriend’s home at 5 Walling Ave. in Oneonta, the same apartment where Heller lived on the third floor. Prosecution believes Truitt had intentions to kill his girlfriend.
Truitt will be sentenced on April 9th and 9 a.m at the Otsego County Courthouse.
