The most current update to the fall foliage report is for this week from October 13th, 2021 to October 19th, 2021. We’re nearing the peak for foliage across central New York with areas in the Adirondacks and the North Country already moving past their peak. Our peak is expected to occur by this weekend.
It’s good timing for the North Country’s transition into past peak conditions because it looks like next week, they’ll be getting some nights near the freezing point which is not good for fall foliage. When the temperature reaches 32 degrees and frost occurs, it can prevent the leaves on trees from producing anthocyanin which creates those vibrant red colors during fall.
If you’d take any pictures of the foliage, we’d love to share them live on Eyewitness News! You can send them through the CNY homepage website or to Meteorologist Daniel Maslowski’s facebook, twitter, and instagram as well as Chief Meteorologist Colleen Hurley’s Facebook and Twitter at @colleenhurleywx.
