UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — A Utica woman was arrested on North Genesee Street on Monday, October 9 following an incident in which a man was struck by a vehicle.

Utica Police were dispatched to a local hotel on North Genesee Street regarding a vehicular incident. Upon arrival, they spoke to the male who was allegedly hit by the car, who said he went to the location to speak to the mother of his children. The male stated he allegedly wanted to speak with the female regarding her failure to provide care for their children.

The male also stated that he witnessed the female — 26-year-old Jyanna Gibson of Utica — allegedly driving their vehicle without their children in it, at which point an argument ensued.

According to the male, as he was walking away from the argument, Gibson accelerated the vehicle, striking him and knocking him to the ground. The Utica Fire Department eventually took the male to a local hospital for his injuries.

Further investigation found that Gibson’s two children — ages nine and four — were left in the hotel room unattended. Gibson was taken into custody on the scene and transported to the Utica Police Department. The children were turned over to the care of family members.

Gibson was charged with second-degree Attempted Assault — a felony — and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a misdemeanor.
