UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – The Utica Police Department reports that on December 21st, a man wanted in connection to an October robbery has been arrested and given multiple felony charges.

According to police, on Wednesday, October 12th, officers arrived at the 700 block of Lansing Street to investigate a robbery that occurred. On the scene, the victim claimed that a man, who would later be identified as 28-year-old Osam Tajir of Utica, allegedly approached him on Mohawk Street and demanded his belongings or else he would be shot. Tajir then allegedly reached toward his waistband, threatening that he had a weapon.

The victim then gave Tajir all his belongings, fled the scene, and called the police.

The case was turned over to the Criminal Investigations Division. Through their investigation, surveillance footage of the incident was obtained and distributed, leading to a positive identification of Tajir.

Attempts to locate Tajir were made to locate this party but were unsuccessful and the charges were then submitted for a warrant.

Then, on Wednesday, December 21st, officers with the Patrol Division found Tajir on the scene of a trespassing call and took him into custody. Additionally, while performing a search of him, officers allegedly found a pair of brass knuckles.

Osam Tajir, age 28 of Utica has been arrested and charged with the following:

  • Robbery in the Third Degree (warrant from the original incident)
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (brass knuckles)
