OTSEGO COUNTY, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office has reported that a man from Unadilla was arrested in the state of Ohio after allegedly jumping bail and fleeing NY state to avoid prison time back in October of 2022.

According to the Sheriff, 43-year-old Ray Hyer of Unadilla allegedly failed to appear for sentencing for a prior criminal conviction back in October. An investigation revealed Hyer allegedly fled to Sandusky, Ohio to avoid prison.

Hyer was taken into custody by the Sandusky Ohio Police Department without incident and held at the Erie County Correctional Facility in Sandusky, Ohio until October 21st when Otsego County investigators were able to deport him back to New York State.

Ray Hyer has been arrested and charged with the following:

  • Bail Jumping in the Second Degree (Class E Felony)

He is currently being held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility for his arraignment. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by both the Oneonta and Sandusky Ohio Police Departments.
