TOWN OF LISBON, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office is reporting an inmate has been taken back into custody after attempting an escape during a routine transport.

On Thursday December 9th, Otsego County corrections officers were transporting 27-year-old John B. Clark of Undomiciled, N.Y. to a regularly scheduled court appearance in the Town of New Lisbon when he suddenly fled from their custody.

This prompted a short foot pursuit. Fortunately, officers were able to catch up with the escaped inmate, but he did not give up easily. Clark resisted arrest and engaged in a brief physical altercation with the officers, fracturing one of their hands in the process.

Clark was then taken back into custody and returned to the Otsego County Correctional Facility. The injured officer was taken to Bassett Hospital treated for their injuries.

John B. Clark has been charged with the following in relation to his attempted escape:

  • Assault on Police Officer (Class D Felony)
  • Escape in the Second Degree (Class E Felony)
  • Assault in the Third Degree (Class A Misdemeanor)
  • Escape in the Third Degree (Class A Misdemeanor)
  • Obstruction of Governmental Administration (Class A Misdemeanor)
  • Resisting Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor)
  • Harassment in the Second Degree (Violation)

He is scheduled to appear in Otsego County Centralized Arraignment at-a-later-date.
