UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – The Utica Police Department is reporting that a man has been given multiple felonies after injuring an officer with a razor blade in Utica on May 19th.

Around 11:45 pm on Thursday, officers with the GIVE Unit and the NYS Police were patrolling the area of Varick Street when they observed a suspicious individual, who would later be identified as 47-year-old Kenneth Blue of Utica.

Officers tried to talk with Blue, but he allegedly became violent and tried hitting one of the officers. This prompted his arrest. As he was being taken into custody, Blue then allegedly “drew a razor blade from his pocket” and cut an officer on the hand. Blue was then pepper-sprayed by the police, which reportedly had little effect.

Finally, officers were forced to draw their sidearms to gain control of the situation. Blue then dropped the razor blade, tackled it to the ground, and put into handcuffs.

The officer injured during the incident was treated for a minor laceration to his hand and released.

Kenneth Blue of Utica has been arrested and charged with the following:

  • Assault in the Second Degree (Class D Felony)
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (Class D Felony)
  • Harassment in the Second Degree (Class A Misdemeanor)
  • NYS Parole Violation
