UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — Utica Police arrested an Ilion man on Sunday, October 8 after a traffic stop in the city.

Police stopped the car on the 800 block of Oswego Street at approximately 9:00 pm on Sunday, October 8 for various traffic violations. After interviewing the occupants and further on-scene investigation, police found that the driver’s license had been suspended and the car would need to be towed. Further investigation into the car found several corner-knotted baggies containing a substance consistent with cocaine.

Officers then conducted a search of the occupants and found that one of the occupants — 22-year-old Jamal Cochran of Ilion — had several additional baggies on his person. Cochran was subsequently arrested and transported to the Utica Police Department.

Cochran is being charged with three different counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance: third-, fourth-, and seventh-degree charges. The third- and fourth-degree charges are felonies, while the seventh-degree charge is a misdemeanor.
