HERKIMER, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — A Herkimer man faces grand larceny charges after New York State Police arrested him for stealing merchandise.
New York State Police announced that they arrested 29-year-old Steven Vitalo of Herkimer on Friday, November 3 after he went through the self-checkout at the Lowe’s with numerous items and did not pay for any of them. Further investigation found that Vitalo would allegedly switch barcodes on specific items to pay less for specific items.
According to police, Vitalo allegedly stole over $5,500 from the Lowe’s in merchandise. He is currently being charged with third-degree Grand Larceny — a Class D Felony — and second-degree Falsifying Business Records, a Class A misdemeanor.
Vitalo was arraigned in Herkimer Town Court and released on his own recognizance. He is expected to return to Herkimer Town Court on November 21.
