UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — A late-night fire on Stark Street that has displaced 12 people is now under investigation by the Utica Fire Marshal.
The Utica Fire Department was called to the fire at 1204 Stark Street at approximately 11:30 Monday night. Upon arrival, firefighters were met with heavy smoke and fire, with fire venting from the north side of the building, which threatened the building next to it.
Crews immediately got to work protecting the exposed building, while also trying to extinguish the fire and ensure all occupants were out of the building safely. The Utica Police Department and all subsequent searches found no other occupants inside the building.
Firefighters on the scene worked for approximately two hours to confirm the fire had in fact been extinguished. The American Red Cross is now providing aid to the three adults and nine children — ranging in age from newborn to 16 — that were displaced by the fire.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and is currently under investigation by the Utica Fire Marshal.
