BINGHAMTON, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – The National Weather Services offices in Binghamton and Albany have issued a Winter Storm Watch for areas that include Northern Oneida and Herkimer Counties. The Watch is in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday evening.

Heavy snow is possible with total snow accumulations of 5 to 9 inches possible, with 6 to 12 inches and ice accumulations of around one tenth of an inch possible in Northern Oneida County. Winds could gust up to 25 to 30 mph. Snow may mix with, or change to rain and become more scattered Thursday morning. Colder air will return, and lake effect snow is expected later Thursday.

Snow will begin Wednesday afternoon, becoming heavy at times with snowfall rates of 1 inch per hour possible Wednesday evening. The snow may become a wintry mix of rain, freezing rain, and sleet Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes.
