UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – Utica Police arrested a woman on Thursday, May 11 after she allegedly dumped a pot of stew on a victim’s head last Friday, May 5.

Police were called to the 700 block of Court Street in the city regarding an assault at 1:30 in the morning on Friday, May 5. They were met by the victim, who said he and the suspect – 35-year-old China Butler of Utica – were engaged in an argument.

Police say that the argument escalated, and Butler grabbed a crock-pot full of stew and dumped it over the victim’s head, causing severe burns to his body and head. Butler then allegedly grabbed a baseball bat and hit the victim in the head.

The victim was transported to Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital and then transferred to a Syracuse hospital for treatment of his injuries. Police say that while the victim’s injuries are serious, they are considered non-life-threatening.

Police say that, along with the New York/New Jersey Regional Marshal’s Task Force and Oneida County Sheriffs, they secured warrants for Butler and arrested her on Eagle Street on Thursday, May 11. She is being charged with first-degree assault and third-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, both felonies.
