UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — Utica Police arrested a man at Union Station on Wednesday, November 15 after he became unruly on a train.

Police were called to the train on the evening of Wednesday, November 15. Police then located the male — 25-year-old Fredrick Daniely — and began a conversation with him. Based on the male’s current status, officers intended to provide a courtesy transport to find the male a place to stay for the evening.

Noticing that Daniely had property with him, officers then asked if he had anything that may be dangerous in the belongings. Daniely then allegedly admitted he had a handgun in his book bag. Officers subsequently located the handgun.

When asked if he had a permit for the handgun, Daniely allegedly claimed Sovereign Citizen status, which claims refusal to abide by federal laws and refusal to recognize any governmental entities.

At that point, Utica Police then detained him and transported him to the Utica Police Department for further investigation. When police found that Daniely did not possess a valid pistol permit, he was subsequently charged with:

  • third-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, a Class D Violent Felony and
  • Criminal Possession of a Firearm, a Class E felony.
