UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – Police arrested a man on Tuesday, May 23 after he allegedly stole several items from a residence on Miller Street in the City of Utica.

Police were called to the residence on the 1200 block of Miller St at approximately 10:00 PM. On arrival, officers received information that a man had allegedly broken into the garage and had stolen several power tools and two televisions. Officers also learned that the suspect – 36-year-old Omar Thompson – was dragging the televisions down the street and into a nearby yard.

Police then arrived on the scene and were directed toward a camper in the backyard that Thompson had fled into and was barricading himself inside.

Utica Police then set up a perimeter and began to negotiate with Thompson, to no avail. Officers then entered the camper and were able to apprehend Thompson. Upon investigation of the camper, police found several items that had allegedly been reported stolen as well.

Thompson was arrested and transported to the Utica Police Department. He is currently being charged with third-degree Burglary, a felony, and Petit Larceny, a misdemeanor.
