UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – Young adults in Utica expected to have a new place to hang out, not in the deteriorated old slides, but a newly built playground at Thomas R. Proctor Park.

“One thing that we learned throughout the last several years with Covid is that there was not enough outside venue throughout our city. And with the ARPA, American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), we are putting out our resources into what people have expressed the need for,” said Mayor Robert M. Palmieri.

Designed by BCI Burke Company during a months-long design process that emphasized on providing a family-friendly play area, it features several unique play features that are new to the Utica area.

Besides, several recent improvements are kicking start this fall including a new dog park at the east end of the park and a new parking lot adjacent to Buckley Pool. Once the construction is finished, Proctor Park is expected to become a destination recreation area for local residents.

The construction will be finished soon, but the colorful rubber surface will wait until spring to be installed, at which time the playground will be open for use.
