NEW HARTFORD, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — New Hartford Police have arrested a Utica man after a two-week search on Thursday, November 9.
Police were called to the parking lot of Panera Bread on Commercial Drive in New Hartford at approximately 4:30 PM on Thursday, October 26 for a reported argument. Upon their arrival, police say that they interviewed a female victim who reported she was involved in an argument with her boyfriend — 29-year old Elijah Mitchell of Utica.
During the argument Mitchell allegedly restrained, then placed his hands around her neck and began choking her. Police say that the victim was also punched repeatedly by another female who was present at the time.
Mitchell then stole property from the victim and fled the scene. The victim was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
The other female at the scene was also interviewed by police.
New Hartford Police attempted to locate Mitchell after the incident, and he agreed to turn himself in to police as part of the investigation. He was eventually located by police on the warrant and subsequently arrested. He was charged with:
- Second-degree Robbery, a Class C Felony,
- Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, a Class A Misdemeanor, and
- Second-degree Harassment, a Violation.
Mitchell was remanded to the Oneida County Jail upon his arraignment, pending a felony hearing. Additional charges are pending on the other female present.
