UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – A Bronx man apparently took his own life after having shot a woman at the Dari-Del Convenience store in West Utica, at the corner Noyes and York Streets. Utica Police were called to the store shortly after 1:30PM Thursday on a report of shots fired.

Police immediately encountered a woman who had been shot in the abdomen. She told police that the person who shot her had gone into the store and reportedly shot himself. Using a robot and drone, police were able to find a male inside the store dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The deceased has been identified as Jakwon Ramos, 27 years old from the Bronx.

The female who was shot had been quickly transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital and was in surgery with what could be a life-threatening wound.

Utica Police were assisted at the scene by the Metro Swat team, including members of the Oneida County Sheriff Office, New Hartford and Herkimer Police.

Donovan Middle school and Kernan Elementary school are both within a few blocks of the shooting scene. Both schools went into lockout and then went through a staggered release of students and staff.

Utica Police are still investigating to find the cause of the dispute between the couple.
