UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – A tow truck driver from Frankfort was arrested Sunday afternoon after he reported attempted to tow a vehicle from a West Utica residence with authorization.
According to Utica Police, Harold Wehrle, 56 years old, from Frankfort, stopped at a house in the 700 block of Saratoga Street in Utica and spoke with someone at that residence. He told the person he spoke with that he was there to tow away the car. The person Wehrle spoke with was not the car owner, but a relative of the owner. The relative contacted the car owner, who said that Wehrle did not have permission to take the car. The car owner returned to the Saratoga Street house and confronted Wehrle. Police were called and took Wehrle into custody.
Werhle was charged with Fourth Degree Attempted Grand Larceny and Fourth Degree Criminal Mischief.
Police report that they are aware of reports of similar incidents in the area over the past several weeks and are investigating if they are related.
