ONEONTA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – SUNY Oneonta student Tyler Lopresti-Castro has died after his body was discovered early Thursday morning near the Oneonta Public Transit Garage in Oneonta.

The 20-year-old male was suffering from extreme exposure to the cold, and was transported to AO Fox Memorial Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead that evening. The location where the student was found is about five miles from campus. Christopher Witzenburg, The City of Oneonta Police Chief, said the cause of the student’s death, and the circumstances that led up to it are still under investigation.

“He was last seen about midnight so the time he was located at about 6:50 AM from the time that we originally saw him at 2:15 AM on camera he was in the cold and exposed for a very extended period of time but between midnight and 2:15 am we really don’t know where he was,” said Witzenburg.

The location of where the young man was found is miles away from the campus, on the opposite side of I-88 on the south side of the city.

Eyewitness News can confirm that the student is from the Capital District area.
