ROME, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – Overhead sign installations on Routes 26 and 365 in the City of Rome has prompted the New York State Department of Transportation to issue a travel advisory.
The DOT is advising motorists to expect alternating single lane closures around State Routes 26 and 365 in the area of South James Street and Lamphear Road, beginning on Monday, August 14. This closure will be to facilitate the installation of overhead signs. The installation – and subsequent road closures – will occur from 3 pm to 2 am for the duration of the installation.
Additionally, speed limits in the area will be reduced to 45 miles per hour and motorists are advised to be prepared for brief traffic stoppages after 9 pm. Variable message signs will also be used to notify motorists of the work being done.
The closures are expected to last until Wednesday, August 16.
Motorists are urged to slow down and drive responsibly in work zones. Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. Convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
