As the Coronavirus Pandemic continues to disrupt our everyday lives, long term solutions are needed to fight the growing issue of hunger and food insecurity in the area. The Mohawk Valley COVID-19 Respond Fund created by the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties is one such solution.
Through this fund, The Johnson Park Center has been awarded a grants that will provide food to the local community. Along side these grants, The Johnson Park Center has received generous support from other donors and the Food Bank of Central New York and will be holding a Drive-Thru Food Giveaway on Monday, October 26th from 2pm to 7:30pm on the corner of Arthur St and West St in Utica.
It’s planned to have a tractor trailer on location, full of food for the drive. Items that will be included in the giveaway are things like chicken, fish, eggs, cheese, fresh produce, fresh fruit, rice, pasta, cereal, and canned items like soup and beans.
Anyone interested in attending the event should line up in their vehicles at the registration station. JPC personnel will ask you to complete an intake form and then display the number of household being represented inside the vehicle. Following that, visitors will then drive up to each food station where everything will be loaded into your vehicle for you.
Additionally, if you don’t have access to a vehicle, the JPC will also be holding two Walkers Food Giveaways on Tuesday, October 27th and Wednesday, October28th from 3pm to 6pm. Details are below.
