SYLVAN BEACH, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – Oneida County Sheriffs are investigating a death that occurred on Oneida Lake on Monday, August 21.
Sheriffs with both the Road and Marine Patrols were called to the location on Oneida Lake at approximately 12:35 Monday afternoon. Upon arrival, they found a small aluminum boat drifting near the shoreline. Police say they did not know if the boat was occupied upon arrival. A search of the water was conducted with the assistance of the Sylvan Beach and Cleveland Fire Departments.
Deputies were then able to locate a body in the water, later identified as 62-year-old David Brown of Oneida. Brown was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies say Brown was not wearing a life jacket when he was found, and he was taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an Autopsy.
