SYLVAN BEACH, N.Y. (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – New York State Police have reported that a man in Sylvan Beach has been arrested for allegedly threatening his neighbor with a chainsaw.
Around 10:30pm on November 28th, NYS Police were dispatched to a residence on Pleasant Ave in the Village of Sylvan Beach after receiving reports that 59-year-old Daniel J. Waller was threatening a neighbor’s life and damaging their property with a chainsaw.
When Troopers arrived, Waller was in the road with the chainsaw at the ground next to him. They then attempted to confiscate the chainsaw and arrest Waller, but he physically resisted these efforts. As a result, officers had no choice but to taser Waller to subdue him.
Daniel J. Waller has been arrested and charged with the following:
- Menacing in the Second Degree (Class A Misdemeanor)
- Resisting Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor)
- Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree (Class A Misdemeanor)
- Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (Class D Felony)
Waller is also a registered sex offender in the state of New York and has been the cause of four separate incidents since November 2021 in which State Police had to respond.
He was transported to Oneida County Jail where he was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.
