HERKIMER, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – A local charity and a club of motorcycling police officers are coming together to help children suffering from cancer.

315K for The Cure, a charity out of Utica, and the Punishers Law Enforcement Motorcycle club out of Herkimer, announced on Friday, March 10, that they are coming together to present the third annual “Joe Chambrone Punishers Open Golf Tournament.” DeFeo Materials of Bethany, Connecticut, which operates a terminal in Utica, is the main sponsor of the event.

315K For The Cure was founded in 2014 by local pediatric cancer survivors and helps children and families that suffer from the disease. With a motto of “In Service to Others,” The Punishers Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club is made up of local EMS, firefighters, police officers and other public servants to support various charitable causes in Central New York. The club as a whole has chapters in 19 countries.

Over the last two years of the tournament, the charities have donated $17,000 to pediatric survivors.

Tournament proceeds will benefit two local cancer survivors: four-year-old Arlo Bird of Rome and 14-year-old Frankie Castardi of Frankfort. The tournament will also donate an unknown amount of the proceeds to the Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 24 at Holland Heights Golf Course on Steuben Hill Road in Herkimer. A shotgun start is scheduled for 10:15 AM.
