UTICA, NY – An area of low pressure zips through the Great Lakes and Northeast with an incoming round of messy wintry type weather. A mix of rain, snow, and freezing rain will move through during the evening and overnight. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory through 9 AM Thursday.

A slushy coating to an inch along with a light glaze of ice could make the morning commute slippery. The biggest concern will over the higher elevations, bridges and overpasses. Any wintry mix showers should change over to purely rain showers Thursday morning as the temperature rises.

Briefly milder air will return Thursday before temperatures fall again by later in the day. There is also a chance for some breaks in the clouds through the afternoon. Other than a few odd rain or wet snow showers Friday, mainly in Northern Oneida County, most of us will be dry with gusty westerly winds. There could be a few lingering spotty lake effect rain or wet snow showers into Saturday morning. The weekend will otherwise be mainly dry as more sunshine returns, but it will remain chilly.
