Mt. Upton Man Charged With Manslaughter

ONEONTA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – New York State Police report that they have arrested a suspect in the fatal hit and run crash in the Town of Laurens Friday night. Michael Goodspeed, 22 from Mount Upton, was taken into custody by Troopers in the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation. He has been charged with Second Degree Vehicular Manslaughter and Second Degree Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Accident. Both are felonies.

A bicyclist was killed in a hit and run incident Friday night in the Town of Laurens in Otsego County. New York State Police say that the vehicle that struct the man left the scene and they are asking the public’s help in identifying those involved.

According to Troopers, they were called about 9:30PM Friday to Route 205 in Laurens for a report of a vehicle-bicycle crash. Police investigation indicated that both the bike and vehicle were northbound on Rt. 205 near the intersection with Timer Road. The vehicle involved had left the scene.

Troopers say that Michael Vargas, 37 of Laurens, was dead at the scene.
