UTICA, N.Y. (WUTR-TV)– Lafa Mediterranean by Zeina’s had its official grand opening earlier today, in New Hartford. The business previously had its soft opening back in March, to allow workers and the public to get a feel for the new place, now they are ready for full capacity with online ordering, delivery and curbside pickup.
“Now today is our grand opening what we are calling a community day,” Elias Zeina, Manager and Owner at Lafa said.
To honor the New Hartford Fire Department, the Zeina family designated their opening day as a “Community Day” where 50% of their proceeds will go to the New Hartford Fire Department.
“There’s a lot of great community organizations here,” Zeina explained. “So it was a tough decision but it really wasn’t a tough decision because you know they are the focal point of the New Hartford community so we’re happy to donate 50% of what we do today to them.”
In July 2016 the Zeina family got the devastating phone call that their family home, located in New Hartford was on fire. For over a year the Zeina’s were displaced but they commend the fast response from the fire department for saving the structure of their home and allowing them to rebuild.
“The fire department was really fast to respond,” Zeina said. “They were really efficient and they were really sympathetic during a really challenging time for our family.”
This is the second restaurant in the Mohawk Valley owned by the Zeina family, their first is Zeina’s Cafe located in Utica. Open from 11 a.m.- 8 p.m. Lafa’s serves Mediterranean food in a fast casual environment. While you can expect many of the same dishes at Lafa’s that you would get at Zeina’s Cafe, Lafa is the families stepping stone into healthier options.
