ALBANY, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – Governor Kathy Hochul is asking the Small Business Administration (SBA) for Physical Disaster Declarations for three counties in New York State. The three counties are Otsego, Rensselaer and Niagara. All three counties sustained damage to personal and business properties due to severe weather in July. If the request for Otsego County is granted, according to the Governor, it will include counties adjacent to Otsego County.
In the announcement of the governor’s request, Hochul said, “I am requesting these disaster declarations so that impacted New Yorkers can get the assistance they need to get back on their feet and build back their homes and businesses.”
If granted those who suffered weather related losses could be eligible for low interest loans from the SBA. In addition to Otsego County, homeowners, businesses and non-profits in Oneida, Herkimer, Chenango, Delaware, Madison, Schoharie and Montgomery Counties would also be able to apply for SBA loans. The SBA would establish, along with each county, points of contact as well as undertake outreach to home and business owners who may be in need of help.
Three days of heavy rain in mid-July caused severe flooding in parts of Otsego County.
