UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – Earlier this year, the Utica Common Council voted to implement a Civilian Public Safety Advisory Board at the request of Mayor Palmieri.

You might remember last year when the Public Safety Reform Committee issued a Police Reform Report and called for the implementation of 14 specific reforms – one of these was the establishment of the Civilian Public Safety Board.

And today, the mayor has officially announced the members who will serve on the board. The results are as follows:

Appointed by Mayor Palmieri:

Jim Winston

Tiffanie Davis

Appointed by the Utica Common Council:

John Ciccarelli

Monalisa Fermin

Appointed as Non-Profit Members:

Darlene Mack-Brown

Dzevad Racic

Appointed by the NAACP:

Sonia Martinez

Mayor Palmieri said in a statement, “This board consists of well-respected leaders, and I’m confident they will be an asset to the police department and community.”

This board will audit the functions of the Utica Police Department and will have the ability to make recommendations to the police administration to better the force, our community, and the connection between the two.
